Following on from Part 1 where we covered the mental hurdles of motivation, inspiration, commitment and some simple fitness techniques we will now look at your diet and some cool gear to get you shedding chub.
3. Diet
3.1 Get the basics right: If your on the computer most the day night - like me - and would rather be dreaming up some new software then wasting your time on thinking if you’ve had enough Folic Acid then there’s a good chance your diet is in need of a little touch up. You don’t have to live on Mung beans but you will have to at least be a little more conscience of what that half a pizza your shoveling into your mouth is doing to your health. If you don’t you could end up on the ‘Biggest Loser’ and be voted off before winning the Biggest Loser - how embarrassing… Take your lunch to work, yes your work buddies will laugh at your brown paper bag concoctions but not only will you get through the 3pm arvo’ work wall, you will save a shit load of cash (packing you lunch is about 1/4 of what you’d pay, just cheat and cook up a bigger dinner the night before to take to work the next day.
3.2 Water: You can burn calories just by drinking water. A Calorie is actually a measure of heat that your body uses. When you drink water your body heats the fluid up to 98.6 degrees, causing you to burn heat / calories.
3.3 Don’t finish what’s on your plate: I hated when my parents told me I couldn’t leave the table until I cleared my plate. Sure enough it came back to haunt me. Its a bad habit that most people have to this day. Eat only until you are semi-full to full. Don’t gorge yourself and don’t feel like you have to finish everything on your plate. This can save you from eating many, many extra calories.
4. Gear
Ok, this is the real fun part. There’s now more cool fitness gear on the market then ever before, if your like me then your a gadget freak. Take advantage of the plethora of new toys, it’s now easier then ever to loose weight then ever.
4.1 Check out Asics.com for clothes and shoes, if your going to be the part you need to look and feel the part, having some good fitting clothes and shoes will help inspire you to get out there and use them. The fact that you’ve shelled out your hard earned will also help if they sit there in your house reminding you of your sloth.
4.2 GPS watches: GPS (Global Positioning System) devices are navigational tools used to determine specific location data, and are much more accurate than any previous system known to man. A GPS watch uses twenty-seven satellites and a wide network of powerful computers to calculate the user’s location (latitude and longitude) to within a few meters. With a GPS watch on your wrist, it?s easy to keep track of your current location and speed, the direction and distance to your destination, and much more.
4.3 Music: If your going to use your ipod then you want some kicking tracks to get you in the mood. What’s the greatest workout songs of all time? look no further: Eminem “lose Yourself”, Guns N’ Roses “Welcome to the Jungle”, Red Hot Chili Peppers “Give it away now”, Survivor “Eye of the Tiger”, Daft Punk “One More Time” use these tracks and more to get pumped and in the mood to smash through your workout.
Hopefully these 4 keys have provided you with a little inspiration to kick start your health kick and turn from geek to freak, at the very least you might think twice before hooking into another fat dripping burger… remember you want the adies hanging around you like flies, not real flies!
