So what is the Healthiest Diet? How do you dodge the all to common health risks associated with dieting?
Well, the proof is in the pudding. In this case it’s in the pudding the shape of a small Japanese island-state called Okinawa.
Some people call Okinawa heaven on earth, not because it’s got some mystic life-force in it’s water supple or native exotic fruit that is packed full of nutrients - which keeps the population the healthiest on the planet. The secret turns out to be not much of a secret at all. Their lifestyle habits are supremely healthy.
We all need to adjust our lifestyle habits that seem to be killing us and go back to what works, that is adjusting our attitude to fitness - with the approach that exercise is a way of life and eat plant-based diet high in unrefined carbohydrates.
Just following these two simple ways of life can make all the difference. It prevents heat disease and stops cancer in it’s tracks.
The first aspect to a healthy like the Okinawa way is eating more plant food. This is excellent for overall health but especially is good for the heart. Carbohydrats are the bodies energy source, we have to have them in our diet. The problem with a modern western diet is that we do get a lot of carbohydrates but they are the wrong kind.
We need to consume the unrefined type. Refined carbohydrate is commonly found in pasta and rice, and flour. Eating plant food is the best way of receiving these unrefined carbohydrates, there are many fantastic easy recipes to follow so start thinking how you can have unrefined plant food in your diet and you’re half way there.
The second side of the health coin is a mindset. You need to make exercising a way of life. There are many ways of doing this, you might have even tried a few of them but have eventually fallen of the fitness wagon and found yourself back to square one.
Top achieve this mind set lets take a leaf out of the Okinawa book. Do you know that it is not strange to find a 100-year-old Okinawa person that live in their own homes and tend their own gardens. You might not believe this so look it up. Have a search for the 25-year research project, the Okinawan Centenarian Study.
It seems our modern day lifestyle is conspiring against us. We are moving more to the cities and living an increasingly urbanized life. We don not have gardens to tend to, this means we don’t grow our own vegetable, we don’t get the exercise of gardening and we don’t get the joy of growing your own plants which adds vitality and stress-reducing spirituality.
Study the Okinawa food pyramid in more detail and see if you can’t at least get some plants for your small balcony, courtyard or get some indoor plants. Try walking each day, it’s the habit of doing something every day which is the most important thing to develop, this will build a mind frame which is hard to dislodge.
